Michele Morrone Latest Cast Addition To The Housemaid Movie!
Last Updated on April 22, 2026
There I was the other day, scrolling through Insta when on the newsfeed appeared the announcement that Italian actor Michele Morrone has been cast to play Enzo in the upcoming The Housemaid movie, an adaptation of Frieda McFadden’s best-selling thriller.
I’m embarrassed to say that I literally whooped with joy. I was so excited I could hardly contain myself. Of course, this begs the question why?
Sure, he’s beautiful to look at, almost intimidatingly so but that’s not really why.
Most of the time when best-selling books are adapted we already have an idea of who we would like to see on the big screen.
Think Helen Mirren as Elizabeth in Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club film. Universally, we all agree that is spot on. She is who we pictured when we read the book.
The reality though is that those we conjure up in our imaginations don’t always materialise at the casting stage – except for now!!!
If you’ve read the book, The Housemaid, you will know that Enzo is a pivotal character. He was always going to have to be played as a quiet, all-seeing and knowing, slightly brooding, protective hottie and Michele Morrone is the perfect guy to bring those qualities to the screen.
But, before this turns in the inaugural Michele Morrone fan club page, let’s look at everything we know about the movie so far.
Star-Studded Cast
Sydney Sweeney brings significant dramatic experience to the role of Millie.
At just 27 years old, she has already earned two Emmy nominations for her work in HBO’s Euphoria and The White Lotus.
And, if you’ve watched Anyone but You you’ll know she’s a terrific actress and perfect to play Millie.
Amanda Seyfried, who plays Nina Winchester, is a Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner for her portrayal of Elizabeth Holmes in The Dropout.
Most of us know her from Mamma Mia but her extensive career spans from Mean Girls to Les Misérables, making her well-suited for the complex character of Nina.
Brandon Sklenar comes to the role of Andrew Winchester fresh off his breakout performance in 1923.
The son of a carpenter and hairdresser, Sklenar worked consistently for years before finally getting his much-deserved break in Hollywood.
More recently he was in the hit adaptation of Coleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us where he played Atlas Corrigan.
And now we have Michele Morrone to round out the casting as Enzo which is ironically a fascinating parallel to his real life.
Before his acting breakthrough, he worked as a gardener in a small Italian village while struggling financially.
His life changed dramatically after starring in 365 Days – literally overnight, his Instagram following jumped from 700,000 to 2.2 million.
He now has 15.7 million followers and enjoys a spot of modelling so if you want to check out how talented he is (ahem) click here. You’re welcome.
Behind the Camera
Paul Feig, known for directing A Simple Favor and Bridesmaids, will helm the project.
The screenplay has been adapted by Rebecca Sonnenshine, and the film will be co-produced by Feig alongside Laura Fischer and Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman.
Incidentally, both Sweeney and Seyfried are not just starring but also serving as executive producers for the project.
Lionsgate will distribute the film, with Chelsea Kujawa and Erin Jones-Wesley overseeing the project.
The Story

If you haven’t already read The Housemaid (review here), it follows the story of Millie, a young woman seeking a fresh start who takes a job as a housemaid for the wealthy Winchester family.
As she begins working in their marble-hallway mansion, cleaning their home and caring for their daughter Cecilia, she discovers that the family harbors dangerous secrets.
However, Millie has her own dark past that she’s trying to escape, creating a complex web of secrets and lies.
It has the mother of all twists which is why it catapulted to the top of the best-sellers chart.
Book’s Success
The Housemaid has achieved phenomenal commercial success since its publication in 2022, becoming Bookouture’s highest-earning title ever.
The book dominated Amazon’s Kindle store, spending 48 weeks in the US top 10. Its popularity extends beyond digital formats, with the series selling an impressive 1.8 million copies across all formats.
The novel’s success culminated in winning the 2023 ITW Thriller Award as well as appearing on multiple prestigious bestseller lists, including the New York Times and USA Today.
It has been translated in 37 languages, had the film rights acquired by Hidden Pictures (Lionsgate) after a major four-way Hollywood auction and has a record-breaking half a billion page reads in Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited program.
The extraordinary success has also prompted two sequels called The Housemaid’s Secret (February 2023) and The Housemaid Is Watching (June 2024).
There is also The Housemaid’s Wedding which is a winter themed short story that fills in the gap between books 2 and 3.
Movie Production Status
So now that you know what it is about, who is in and and who is operating behind the camera in The Housemaid movie, let’s get to the nitty gritty of when we can actually expect to see in in the cinema.
The film is currently in pre-production as of December 2024 with team actively hiring key talent and crew members, finalizing the budget, and preparing the production schedule.
Despite this, the cast announced on Instagram that the release date for The Housemaid movie will be December 25th 2025!
Back to Morrone
Morrone’s addition to the cast has generated significant buzz due to his meteoric rise in Hollywood.
Born in 1990, in Melegnano, Milan, the Italian actor is more than just a screen presence. He’s also established himself as a singer, releasing his debut album Dark Room in 2020, and has ventured into fashion design with his own beachwear clothing brand, AurumRoma.
His casting as Enzo adds another layer of intrigue to the film. Morrone has already connected with his co-star Sydney Sweeney through a Zoom call while both were working on other projects, describing their interaction as fun and promising for their on-screen chemistry.
Author Freida McFadden has expressed enormous excitement about the adaptation. She took to Instagram to share her enthusiasm about the cast and director, stating she was “blown away” by the perfect combination of talent assembled for the project.
What to Expect
The film promises to be a taut psychological thriller that explores themes of wealth, power, and dangerous secrets.
With its stellar cast, accomplished director, and source material that has captivated millions of readers, The Housemaid movie is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated thriller adaptations in recent years.
The combination of Sweeney’s rising star power, Seyfried’s proven dramatic capabilities, and Morrone’s international appeal suggests that this adaptation will bring McFadden’s gripping narrative to life in a compelling way that both fans of the book and newcomers to the story will appreciate.
I’m certainly going to appreciate it though I may have to go to the cinema multiple times just to be sure!
