The Good Ship Murder Season 4 Is On The Way – But It’s Not All Good News As One Major Character Exits The Show

Last Updated on April 22, 2026

The Good Ship Murder looks set to sail again, with strong signs that a fourth season is on the horizon, even if Channel 5 hasn’t stamped it with an official recommission yet.

For cozy mystery fans who like their murders sun‑drenched and gently tongue‑in‑cheek, that’s very welcome news indeed. But, before you all get too excited, the news is bittersweet as one major character looks set to leave the Mediterranean cruise ship.

If you haven’t already seen the show, it follows former police detective Jack Grayling, who has traded in his warrant card for a microphone as the ship’s resident cabaret singer.

Naturally, death keeps gate‑crashing the deck parties, and Jack can’t quite resist getting pulled back into sleuthing.

He’s joined in his investigations by First Officer Kate Woods, whose cool head, navigational know‑how, and deep sense of duty provide the perfect counterweight to Jack’s showman instincts.

Together, they solve a murder in practically every port, from picturesque coastal towns to glamorous hotspots around Europe, all while negotiating the ebb and flow of their own slow-burning romance.

The Good Ship Murder Season 4: Sailing in 2027?

There may be no formal press release from Channel 5 yet, but multiple industry reports suggest that The Good Ship Murder season 4 will be returning to our screens.

Clapperboard Studios, which produces the series, already lists the show in its slate and continues to promote upcoming adventures, reinforcing the impression that the franchise is viewed as ongoing rather than concluded.

Filming on season 4 is expected to get underway in Malta this spring, so I am fully expecting a Christmas special in late December, followed by weekly episodes across January.

My best educated guess is that season 4 will maintain that pattern and drop in January 2027.

We’re Saying Goodbye To Kate

Yes, the shocking news is that Catherine Tyldesley, who plays Kate Woods, is leaving The Good Ship Murder.

To unravel the why of it all, we have to first say that Catherine used to be on the British soap opera, Coronation Street. She then left in 2018 and began The Good Ship Murder in 2023.

All good so far, until she decided to reprise her role as Eva on Coronation Street. I imagine that, as the shows are on competing TV channels in the UK, she had to pick one and opted for the full-time job.

We know that she is set to take a break from Corrie in order to film her exit storyline, so it’s likely she will appear in one episode at least, and I think that will be the Christmas Special.

One and done. That leaves the writers of The Good Ship Murder to sail off into season 4 with fresh new storylines.

The good news is that it looks like there is a happy ending in store for Kate rather than a tragic demise, which feels very much in the spirit of a cozy mystery. Maybe she’ll be promoted to Captain and set sail on her own ship!

That Shocking Season 3 Finale

I appreciate that season 3 hasn’t quite made it to Britbox worldwide yet (most likely in June 2026), so no spoilers ahead.

What I will say, though, is that I absolutely did not see the finale storyline coming, so if you’re still emotionally recovering from it, you’re not alone.

By the end of the episode, the death had rippled through the crew, but the finale also left fans buzzing about Jack and Kate’s future together, thanks to a quiet, whispered moment between them that the audience was very deliberately not allowed to hear.

So will that tie into Kate’s departure? We will have to wait and see!

For now, I am just pleased that The Good Ship Murder season 4 is on the way, and while it may be bittersweet, it’s better than not getting any new episodes at all.
