The Chelsea Detective Season 4 Release Date Confirmed – Here’s When It Returns

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – if you want really terrific cozy mystery TV, then you’ll find it on Acorn.

Nothing made me happier than knowing The Chelsea Detective is returning with season 4, and we don’t even have to wait that long for it!

Set in the heart of London’s most affluent borough, where opulent townhouses and high-end boutiques line the streets, our down-to-earth detective inspector navigates the complexities of murder investigations.

The show has quickly become a fan favorite since its debut in 2022 and stars the very fun, charming, and talented Adrian Scarborough as DI Max Arnold and Vanessa Emme as DS Layla Walsh.

With yet another refreshing take on the cozy mystery genre, The Chelsea Detective is a heady mix of intricate plot lines and really witty, clever writing.

So, when will season 4 make its way to our TV screens, and what is the show all about?

The Chelsea Detective Season 4 Release Date

Fresh off the back of the third season, which dropped on Acorn TV on April 7, 2025, it was officially announced that The Chelsea Detective season 4 was in the works!

Production began in the heart of London, and now Acorn TV has confirmed that new episodes will air on August 3rd, 2026.

A new string of four fresh feature-length episodes will deliver a smorgasbord of crimes, including the unraveling of a fashion mogul tangled in her own fortune, an aristocratic family fiercely guarding their legacy, and a beauty salon owner with old secrets and perhaps not-so-beautiful truths.

Most tantalizingly, a cryptic double-murder will draw Max and Layla into the cut-throat world of London architecture, promising twists that will keep us guessing until the last minute.

All of our favorite cast members will be returning, and there may even be a hint of romance in the air for Max Arnold!

As Acorn TV’s SVP of Programming, Don Klees, puts it, “the stakes have never been higher” for Chelsea’s top detectives, and so has the anticipation.

Meet Max Arnold

The show follows the investigations of Detective Inspector Max Arnold as he unravels complex murder cases in the wealthy London borough of Chelsea.

The series cleverly contrasts the glitzy, high-end world of Chelsea with the more modest lifestyle of its protagonist.

Max, the son of a local bookshop owner, lives on a houseboat on the Thames, just a stone’s throw away from some of Europe’s most valuable real estate.

Each episode presents a new standalone case, allowing us to enjoy the show without necessarily following a season-long arc.

The crimes often involve the area’s well-heeled residents, exposing the dark underbelly of Chelsea’s seemingly perfect façade.

From art gallery murders to the mysterious deaths of wealthy socialites, the cases are as diverse as they are intriguing.

Season Recaps

If you’ve never seen the show and want to jump in at season 4, let me give you a quick recap.

The first season introduced us to the world of DI Max Arnold and his partner, DC Priya Shamsie. Then DC Shamsie left, and for season 2, DS Layla Walsh joined the team.

By season 3, the team was investigating the murder of former pop star Chloe Carmichael, found drowned in her bath just before Christmas; the case quickly escalates beyond a suspected overdose to a tangled web involving her manager, a journalist, and a politician, all with hidden motives.

They then tackled the discovery of human remains in a community garden, which plunged the detectives into a complex case linked to ex-military personnel and political intrigue at the American Embassy.

The relationship between Max Arnold and his estranged wife, Astrid, took center stage as both attempted to navigate their uncertain future. Honestly, I think that particular storyline has almost wrapped up, so it’s good news that there’s a potential love interest on the horizon for Max in season 4.

At the heart of the series is Adrian Scarborough’s portrayal of DI Max Arnold.

Scarborough, known for his roles in Killing Eve and The King’s Speech, brings a relatable and down-to-earth quality to the lead character.

In the first season, Max is partnered with DC Priya Shamsie, played by Sonita Henry. The second season introduces a new partner for Max, DS Layla Walsh, portrayed by Vanessa Emme.
