Art Detectives Season 2 Confirmed – Everything Fans Need to Know
Last Updated on April 22, 2026
When Art Detectives premiered on Acorn (and later on U in the UK), it quietly promised viewers something just a bit different – a mystery series grounded in both history and humanity, where murder meets antiques and every episode is rich with intrigue.
The premise revolves around the London Metropolitan Police’s smallest and perhaps quirkiest department: the Heritage Crime Unit.
Rather than high-octane chases or gritty drama, the focus is on clever puzzles, the fascinating world of art and collectibles, and the chemistry of its detecting duo.
What’s It About? Cast, Characters, and Plots

At the heart of Art Detectives are DI Mick Palmer (Stephen Moyer) and DC Shazia Malik (Nina Singh), a team whose partnership is both complementary and deeply watchable.
Palmer is an art-loving investigator who is intelligent, unpretentious, and adept at unpicking the tangled world of antiquities, forgeries, and cultural artefacts.
Moyer shines as Palmer, infusing him with warmth and nerdy enthusiasm without ever feeling over the top.
Nina Singh’s DC Malik is sharp, determined, and eager to learn, bringing a straight-talking, inquisitive presence that adds a fresh, contemporary edge to the traditional detective mold.
The recurring cast also includes Sarah Alexander as Rosa, a museum curator and Palmer’s budding romantic interest, and Larry Lamb as Ron, Palmer’s estranged father with a colorful past as one of Britain’s most notorious forgers.
Not only does this make for interesting family dynamics, but it also weaves personal stakes into each episode, as the characters navigate both professional challenges and their own histories.
Plot-wise, each of the first season’s six episodes features its own art-themed case: from a possibly fake Vermeer and a stash of Viking gold to a rare Chinese vase or memorabilia linked with the Titanic.
The stories are notable for their intelligent, believable pacing and the way they keep viewers guessing, without ever relying on unnecessary drama, violence, or tired genre clichés.
There’s as much emphasis on clever clue-hunting as there is on character connections, and for every case solved, the show peppers in fascinating art history facts and sly laughs.
Will There Be a Second Season?

For fans already invested in the Heritage Crime Unit, the good news is that a second season has been officially renewed .
Stephen Moyer hinted that filming and table reads were already underway back in June 2025, so you can look forward to more high-stakes cases, deeper explorations of Mick and Shazia’s dynamic, and likely a new threat on the horizon teased in the season finale.
No official premiere date has been announced yet, but with the show’s strong debut and positive critical response, expectations are high that season two will continue to build on everything viewers loved in the first run.
How Art Detectives Fits Among Acorn’s Other Shows
Acorn TV has become known for bringing the best of British mysteries to a global audience, so think classics like Agatha Raisin, Queens of Mystery, and McDonald & Dodds.
Art Detectives seamlessly joins this line-up, offering the same high-quality, cozy procedural comfort but giving fans a fresh setting: the often-glamorous, sometimes-dangerous, always-curious world of art and antiques.
Where other shows might focus on village murders or family secrets, this series stands apart because of its blend of historical intrigue and modern detective work.
The art-centric cases make for a unique angle, providing just enough educational content for trivia lovers without skimping on suspense.
If you’re a fan of shows like The Brokenwood Mysteries or The Madame Blanc Mysteries, you’ll find Art Detectives offers similar high standards with great scripts, warm performances, and a reliable “case of the week” vibe, but with a colorful, artsy twist.
Success and Reception

Let’s talk about how well the show has done. Acorn TV has revealed that Art Detectives has achieved the highest viewership ever for a new series premiere on the platform, surpassing the 2022 debut of Harry Wild.
In terms of drawing new subscribers, Art Detectives ranks as the second strongest series premiere in Acorn TV’s history, just behind the detective drama A Remarkable Place to Die, which also launched earlier this year.
Viewers and critics alike have praised its wit, smart storytelling, and the easy chemistry between the leads.
The Rotten Tomatoes audience score soared to 86%, and social media buzz has been full of love for its “rare and witty” take on crime drama.
The production values have also been a standout, with lush filming locations, attention to period art details, and just the right level of polish in everything from costumes to crime scene setups.
What’s perhaps most impressive is how the series balances being smart and approachable, never slipping into either academic dryness or TV tropes.
Why The Art Detectives Is A Must-Watch
In the crowded world of British mysteries, The Art Detectives stands out for its charismatic leads, interesting cases, and thoughtful focus on the colorful world of art and history.
The acting is consistently excellent, especially from Stephen Moyer and Nina Singh, whose chemistry anchors every scene and brings out both the show’s humor and its heart.
The writing is smart but never convoluted, and the production team has clearly prioritized authenticity, and each piece of art, whether a masterpiece or a forgery, feels real and relevant.
What truly makes the series sing is how welcoming it feels. As a viewer, you’re invited to solve the puzzles, appreciate the art, and become part of the team.
Whether you’re a cozy mystery veteran or just enjoy a beautiful, clever TV drama, The Art Detectives is well worth your time, and it’s likely to keep finding fans as it grows.
If you haven’t yet delved into the quirky, clever world of art crime, this is the perfect place to start.
Have been thrilled to watch my number one favourite actor in a really enjoyable, intelligent, lovely series – -can’t wait for series two.
LOVE ALL OF MY SHOWS ON ACRORN IN THE US . AND CAN WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR TO SEE THEM ALL.
We are American fans of the brilliant mysteries than only the British can produce. We just discovered Art Detectives, as we finished up Season 25 of Midsomer Murders. These join our faves like Morse, Poirot, Miss Marple and Murder Before Evensong. Kudos to the filmmakers, actors, crew and especially the writers who can weave a complex storyline that take our minds in all directions at once, capture our intrigue and never fail to satisfy the armchair sleuth and her hubby.
I’m very pleased to find your post on Art Detectives getting a second season.
Thanks for the info.
