If you like your cozy mysteries with a side of sunshine and a dash of espionage, Signora Volpe is a lovely one to add to your watch list.

The British-Italian crime drama stars Emilia Fox as Sylvia Fox, a former MI6 operative who trades London gray for Umbrian hills, only to discover that murder and intrigue travel just as well as she does.

The series streams on Acorn TV, with a third season now out, and episodes dropping weekly.

What Is Signora Volpe About?

Signora Volpe (which translates to “Mrs. Fox”) follows Sylvia Fox, a high-ranking British spy who becomes disillusioned with life at MI6 and heads to Italy to visit her sister in the hill town of Panicale.

What is meant to be a quiet family trip quickly goes sideways when a body turns up at her niece’s wedding, pulling Sylvia into a local mystery that calls on all her old skills.

Instead of flying back to London when the dust settles, she buys a rundown house and decides to stay in Umbria.

And so begins to build a slower life that keeps getting interrupted by suspicious deaths, missing people, and the occasional spy complication from her past.

This is very much a village-style whodunnit with light espionage and relationship drama, so you get classic amateur-sleuth beats plus the fun of seeing a professional spy apply tradecraft to stolen truffle pigs and dubious charity events.

Think of it as “ex‑MI6 goes slightly Miss Marple,” only with more espresso and fewer vicars.

Season 3 In 2026: What To Expect

The show is a worldwide hit, so season 3 was officially commissioned by Acorn TV, with three new 90‑minute episodes and production that began in Italy in late 2025, setting it up for release in 2026.

The first episode of Signora Volpe season 3 premiered on Acorn TV on October 5th, 2026, with weekly episodes to follow.

The new storyline picks up after the events of season 2, where Sylvia was kidnapped. She starts out physically and mentally recovered, back to enjoying her adopted life in Umbria, but of course, peace never lasts long in a cozy mystery.

This time, Sylvia’s investigations include the murder of a local winery owner and the case of a handsome young man found dead in the bed of a powerful couple who insist they have never seen him before.

While all of that is going on, her relationship with Carabinieri captain Giovanni Riva deepens, complicated by his finalized divorce and his desire to put down roots.

By the final episode, things get very personal. Someone close to Sylvia dies, and her ex‑husband Adam Haines reappears, injured and in danger, forcing her to choose where her loyalties really lie.

The Cozy Crime Flavor And Setting

One of the big appeals of Signora Volpe is its setting in Umbria, often called the “green heart” of Italy, full of hill towns, vineyards, olive groves, and ancient stone streets.

Filmed on location in places like Panicale and the surrounding countryside, the show leans into warm colors, sunlit piazzas, and scenic drives that make every episode feel a bit like mystery tourism.

It’s the sort of show where you start out wondering who the killer is and end up looking up flights and agriturismos.

Tonally, it stays firmly on the cozy side of crime where the murders matter, and there is real emotional weight, but the emphasis is on character, puzzle solving, and atmosphere rather than graphic detail.

There’s gentle humor in Sylvia’s adjustment to Italian life, her family’s quirks, and the culture clashes with the local authorities, but it never tips into farce.

You still get that comforting sense that justice will be done and the town will mostly settle back down in time for the next market day.

Cast and Characters

Emilia Fox leads the series as Sylvia Fox, bringing a mix of intelligence, warmth, and slightly guarded wit to a character who can slip from friendly neighbor to trained operative in a heartbeat.

Sylvia is capable and resourceful, but she’s also visibly enjoying the food, scenery, and slower rhythms of small-town Italy, which helps keep the show grounded and cozy even when spy plots bubble up.

Around her, the main cast includes Giovanni Cirfiera as Capitano Giovanni Riva, the local Carabinieri officer who starts out wary of Sylvia’s interference and gradually becomes both ally and romantic interest.

Tara Fitzgerald plays Sylvia’s sister, Isabel Vitale, an art historian with her own family and career stresses, and Matteo Carlomagno appears as Isabel’s husband, Matteo.

Jamie Bamber recurs as Adam Haines, Sylvia’s ex‑husband and former MI6 colleague, whose murky past and shared history with Sylvia keep pulling her back toward the world she thought she’d left behind.

The supporting players, like neighbors, police colleagues, and local professionals, help build that small, interconnected community where everyone has secrets, and someone always knows more than they’re saying.

It’s exactly the sort of cast you come to recognize across episodes, which makes each return visit to Panicale feel pleasantly familiar (even if the crime rate is something no tourist board would advertise).

Where to Watch

signora volpe

Signora Volpe is produced by Route 24 with backing from ITV Studios, and launched as an Acorn TV original, giving it an easy route to viewers in the US and other English‑speaking markets.

Season 1 premiered on Acorn TV in 2022, while a second series aired in 2024 on both Acorn TV and BBC America, steadily building an international fanbase that likes its mysteries sunny but not silly.

In the UK, the show has also appeared on U&DRAMA (formerly Drama), making it accessible to terrestrial viewers who may first recognize Emilia Fox from Silent Witness.

With a third season now available, Signora Volpe sits nicely alongside other Acorn favorites on your cozy-mystery list. We get a blend of espionage backstory, village intrigue, and Italian charm that makes it very easy to keep pressing “next episode” on a quiet evening.

Not loving episode 1 so far as it seems to be being narrated from the script/book as the scenes are being played out. Had to turn it off.
I’m not blind or reading a book. If I were I wouldn’t have turned on the TV.
Does/is anyone else getting this version or like it?!?
