Private Eyes West Coast Release Date – Everything We Know About The Jason Priestly Spin-off

If you thought we had seen the last of Matt Shade and Angie Everett when Private Eyes ended in 2021, there is some very good news!

Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson are getting the team back together for Private Eyes West Coast, with the action moving from Toronto to Victoria, British Columbia.

I always liked Private Eyes because it knew what sort of show it wanted to be. There were crimes to solve, but it never felt as dark as many police dramas.

The cases came with humor, likable regular characters and the long-running question of exactly what was going on between Shade and Angie.

That makes this spin-off interesting. It is not a remake with new detectives. Priestley is back as former hockey player turned private investigator Matt Shade, while Sampson returns as Angie Everett.

We are picking up with characters we know, but in a new city with a new group around them…

What Is Private Eyes West Coast About?

Shade and Angie have left Toronto and started a new life on Canada’s west coast. They are now in Victoria, and at first it sounds as though detective work may no longer be the center of their lives.

That does not last long.

A night out puts them at the scene of a murder, where a woman is found standing over her dead boyfriend while holding a bloody steak knife. Shade and Angie believe she may be innocent and find themselves pulled back into investigating.

From there, they set up a new private investigation firm and begin taking on cases around British Columbia.

We already know that one story will involve a missing student in the B.C. wilderness, while another will see them trying to get a murder confession from a surfer in Tofino.

For me, moving the show to Victoria makes a lot of sense. British Columbia gives the writers a very different setting without changing the format that made the original show so easy to watch.

Private Eyes West Coast Release Date and Where to Watch

This is the part many of you will be waiting for, and we now have confirmed dates.

In Canada, Private Eyes West Coast premieres Wednesday, September 30th, 2026 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on Global. Global says its fall shows will also be available through STACKTV and GlobalTV.com.

US viewers get the series a few days later. The CW has set the American premiere for Monday, October 5th, 2026 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

The CW also makes its primetime shows available through the free CW App, and its entertainment programming is due to appear in a CW hub on The Roku Channel from fall 2026.

For UK viewers, there is no confirmed broadcaster or streaming release date as of August 2026. The original Private Eyes aired in the UK on Universal TV and later Sky Witness, but there is no confirmation yet that the spin-off will follow the same route.

Where Are Shade and Angie Now?

This may be the biggest question for long-time fans.

Private Eyes spent years playing with the chemistry between Shade and Angie. By the end of the fifth and final season, the pair finally kissed, leaving viewers with a pretty clear hint that their relationship was about to change.

The official information for Private Eyes West Coast says they are leading “surprisingly different lives” in Victoria and have made a fresh start both personally and professionally.

That does not tell us whether they are now a couple, whether they tried a relationship and it failed, or whether the writers have found another way to keep that familiar tension going.

I would be surprised if the new series ignored it, because their relationship was a large part of what made Private Eyes work.

Who Is in the Cast?

Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson are the leads again, and Priestley is also an executive producer. He has directed two episodes of the first season.

Global has also confirmed David Kaye, Olivia Cheng and Khamisa Wilsher as cast members. That bad news is that I have trawled through the cast list and there is no sign of either Barry Flatman who played Don Shade, Matt’s father, or Jordyn Negri who played Jules, his daughter.

The first season will have ten episodes, and behind the scenes, the series comes from Lionsgate Canada and Piller/Segan, with Jennifer Kassabian and Sarah Dodd serving as showrunners. Piller/Segan was also involved with the original Private Eyes, so there is some continuity behind the camera too.

And There Is Already News About Season 2

This is a nice bit of news for anyone worried that we might only get ten episodes. Global renewed Private Eyes West Coast for a second season before Season 1 had even aired.

There is a small update, though. A British Columbia film union production listing currently says Season 2 filming has been postponed until 2027.

That does not mean the season has been canceled, but it may mean a longer wait between seasons. The CW has only confirmed its US plans for Season 1 so far.

Is Private Eyes West Coast a Cozy Mystery?

I would not call Private Eyes West Coast a traditional cozy mystery in the strictest sense. Shade and Angie are professional investigators, and the show can include murder, danger and action.

But if you like the lighter end of crime TV, it should fit nicely with the sort of shows many cozy mystery fans already watch. The original mixed cases with humor, friendships, romance and recurring characters rather than making everything grim.

The move to Victoria gives it a new setting, but the important part is that Priestley and Sampson are still at the center of it. After five years away, I am very happy to see Shade and Angie opening another case file!

Private Eyes West Coast premieres September 30th on Global in Canada and October 5th on The CW in the US.
