Get ready, mystery lovers! The hit show Only Murders in the Building is returning for its fifth season.
Whether you’re a die-hard fan or new to the series, this season promises to bring more twists and turns we all love.
Exclusive to Hulu and Disney+, the show is fun and quirky. Honestly, who doesn’t love seeing Martin Short and Steve Martin back together again?
The addition of Selena Gomez was inspired, forming the trio we didn’t know we needed.
With the first season proving to be a mega-hit, the second was quickly ordered and was just as successful, leading to the third.
The ante was well and truly upped when Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd joined the cast, and so something special was needed for season 4!
And we got in spades as Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy, and Zach Galifianakis joined the show to play our intrepid sleuths in a movie.
So, where will the show go from there, and what does season 5 have in store for us?
What to Expect in Season 5
We don’t have to wait long to find out, as Only Murders in the Building will return on September 9th, 2025 on Hulu and Disney+.
Season 4 wrapped up with a mix of resolution and suspense. The trio solved the murder of Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch), uncovering who was behind her death.
The season concluded on a high note with Oliver and Loretta’s (Meryl Streep) wedding, but happiness was short-lived.
The final moments revealed a new murder: Lester, the Arconia’s doorman, was found dead in the building’s courtyard fountain.
Adding to the intrigue, Sofia Caccimelio approached the trio, claiming her husband’s disappearance was linked to the Arconia.
Season 5 will center on solving Lester’s murder while exploring Sofia’s cryptic connection to the building.
Showrunner John Hoffman has teased that this season will delve into “a new world” with a distinctly New York flavor.
With its trademark mix of humor, mystery, and quirky characters, fans can expect another thrilling ride through the Arconia’s secrets.
New Cast Additions
I kind of liked it when the show focused on the quirky characters of the building, but once it became hugely successful, famous faces started popping up everywhere.
And the upcoming season will be no different. We will be getting another star-studded lineup alongside the beloved Steve Martin (Charles), Martin Short (Oliver), and Selena Gomez (Mabel).
Confirmed are Keegan-Michael Key, Christoph Waltz, Renée Zellweger, Logan Lerman, and Téa Leoni, who reprises her role as Sofia Caccimelio from the Season 4 finale.
Details about their characters remain under wraps, but given the show’s history, they’re likely to play pivotal roles in the next murder mystery.
The Show in a Nutshell
Charles, Oliver, and Mabel all live in the Arconia apartment complex in New York and share a passion for true crime.
When fellow resident Tim Kono is murdered in their apartment building, the trio decides to solve the case and start a podcast about their investigation.
The podcast becomes a bit of a hit, and as they dig deeper, they uncover secrets about their neighbours and themselves.
Their investigation takes them through a series of twists and turns until the killer is revealed.
At the end of the first season, it looks like Mabel has been framed for the murder of Bunny Folger, which forms the plot for the second season.
She didn’t do it, by the way, and just as everything looks like it’s getting back to normal, Charles’ cast member, Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd), is murdered on stage, which is the crime that needs to be solved in the third season.
In the third season, the gang found themselves navigating complicated relationships and uncovering more secrets before that cliffhanger ending, which was the death of Sazz Pataki, Charles’ stunt double, in his apartment when she was dressed like him.
So, is somebody trying to kill Charles? Actually, no, as we discover in season 4!
Does It Get The Thumbs Up?
Of course, Only Murders in the Building gets a massive thumbs up. It’s an absolute banger of a show that I look forward to every week when a new season drops.
The jokes, the snark, the plot, the cast – everything about it is fabulous. However, I hope that the injection of some really famous names won’t detract from the quirkiness of the core trio of Charles, Oliver, and Mabel, which can happen when a show becomes a huge hit and all the A-listers want to hop on board!
So, if you haven’t already seen it, you can watch all three seasons on Disney+, and even if you have seen it, it’s not exactly a chore to give it another go.
