The Mallorca Files: Season 4 Update Will We See Miranda And Max Back On Our Screens?
Last Updated on April 22, 2026
When I talk about The Mallorca Files, I always start with the setting, because that’s half the charm.
This is a British police procedural set on the Spanish island of Mallorca, following two mismatched detectives working among the international community that lives, works, and gets into trouble there.
At the heart of the show is Welsh detective Miranda Blake, partnered with German detective Max Winter, both working under Palma Police Chief Inés Villegas.
Miranda is serious, methodical, and tightly wound, while Max is relaxed, intuitive, and a little chaotic, and that clash of personalities is what gives the series its light, fun feel.
Across the episodes, they tackle everything from stolen art to missing supermodels and vineyard feuds, often brushing up against the wealthy, the famous, and the quietly shady expat world that makes Mallorca such a fun backdrop.
It’s very much a comfort watch: case-of-the-week storytelling, beautiful locations, and a slow-burn partnership that has plenty of emotional beats without losing the show’s easy tone.
The BBC Years: Seasons 1 and 2

The Mallorca Files first arrived on BBC One in 2019, launched as a daytime drama but quickly finding an audience that went well beyond that slot.
Season 1 ran for 10 episodes, originally broadcast between 25 November and 6 December 2019, and established the formula: sun-soaked mysteries, a playful dynamic between Miranda and Max, and standalone plots easy to dip into.
The success of that first run meant a second season was confirmed very early, even before the first episode aired.
Season 2 aired on BBC One in early February 2021, although it was shorter than planned, with 6 episodes instead of the originally intended 10 because filming was disrupted by the pandemic.
Those missing scripts didn’t vanish, though; producers indicated that the unfilmed episodes were expected to be carried over into later seasons, which helped keep hopes alive that the show still had more stories to tell.
With those first two seasons, viewers got used to the rhythm of the series on the BBC: a reliable burst of Mediterranean escapism, usually released in a compact run that was also made available as a box set on iPlayer.
How And Why The Show Moved To Amazon
After its first two outings, The Mallorca Files took a noticeable pause, with fans waiting to hear what might happen next.
Behind the scenes, the production has always been an international effort, co-produced by Cosmopolitan Pictures and Clerkenwell Films with a network of partners including BBC Studios and broadcasters in Germany and France.
That structure made it a natural candidate for a bigger global home, and that is where Amazon came in for season 3.
For the third season, Amazon Prime Video stepped in as a key partner, with Amazon MGM Studios teaming up with BBC Studios and the existing producers to bring the show back.
The new deal positioned Season 3 as a Prime Video title available in multiple territories, including the UK, USA, Germany, Australia, and Mexico, and also allowed Amazon to carry the earlier seasons so new viewers could catch up.
Executives at both Amazon and BBC Studios have talked about The Mallorca Files having a devoted global fan base and about this partnership as a way to extend the life of fan-favorite characters while tapping into the show’s catalogue in a more flexible, commercial way.
Will We See The Mallorca Files Season 4?

As of now, there has been no official renewal announcement for The Mallorca Files Season 4 from Amazon or BBC Studios, and no filming dates or commissioning news have been released.
That said, there are still reasons for cautious optimism if you’re invested in Miranda and Max’s future.
One hopeful sign comes from Elen Rhys herself, who responded to fan concern on Instagram to say that the show has not been cancelled and that every effort is being made behind the scenes to secure a Season 4, and everyone is still in talks.
That kind of message doesn’t guarantee another season, but it does suggest that conversations are ongoing and that the creative team and cast are keen to continue.
When you combine that with Amazon’s recent investment in Season 3 and the way the show has been framed as having a devoted global fan base, it feels reasonable to say that The Mallorca Files is not definitively over yet.
For now, I’m treating Elen Rhys’s update as a good sign and keeping fingers crossed that we’ll get to return to Mallorca for more cases with Miranda and Max.
Three Seasons of Sunny Crime
Across its three seasons, The Mallorca Files has built up a compact but satisfying run of episodes.
Season 1 delivered 10 stories, Season 2 offered 6, and Season 3 on Amazon consists of 8 episodes, all released on 8 August 2024 as a full-season drop – so head there is you want to re-watch!
That structure means the entire series is very binge-friendly, especially now that all three seasons are available together on Prime Video in participating regions.
In terms of storytelling, the new episodes in season 3 feature cases involving treasure hunts, arson, kidnappings, and fresh murders, with Miranda and Max’s working relationship tested in new ways.
The series also continues to sprinkle in international guest stars, including actors such as Enrique Arce, Philippe Brenninkmeyer, Charlie Higson, and Leonor Watling, reinforcing that sense of Mallorca as a crossroads for different cultures and troublemakers.
It still feels very much like the same series that began on the BBC, just with a broader platform and a renewed push to highlight the chemistry of the leads.
Please Give Us Season 4!

I think the biggest sign of how much The Mallorca Files matters is how strongly fans are still talking about it.
We don’t just enjoy the show in passing; we return to it when we want comfort viewing, familiar faces, and that mix of light mystery and warm character moments that’s surprisingly rare in modern TV.
And let’s be honest, the chemistry between Miranda and Max, and the gentle humor have turned it into a series many of us rewatch rather than simply move on from.
Whenever there’s even a hint of news about the future of the show, the response from viewers is immediate and heartfelt.
We want closure for these characters, but more than that, we want to stay in their world a little longer.
The fact that people still ask about renewal, share updates, and comment on posts from the cast tells me that The Mallorca Files has built a loyal, long-term audience.
As fans, we’re ready to support a fourth season the moment it’s announced, and until then, we’ll keep cheering for Miranda and Max and hoping that the next chapter in Mallorca is just around the corner.
Just discovered this show and watched the 3 seasons over the last couple months. Love it and really hope for another season!! 🙏🏻
I sure hope they do a #4 series its a great show those 2 make it worth watching it❣️❣️✨✨🤗🤗
My husband and I love this show and the chemistry between Max and Miranda! The witty humor sets the viewer in a comfortable place and the crimes that are presented are just enough to be cerebral without being gruesome!
I would love to see more of the Max and Miranda relationship dynamic and the beautiful Mallorca scenery! ❤️
If we do not get another season of the bluesy yet ultimately cheery Mallorca Files, it will be because the producers have cheated us! You have a winner that reminds us of The Rockford Files, why quit now?
More Mallorca files please!! Such a fun show. I have a bit of a crush on Max! 😉
We haven’t forgotten, we’re still here and waiting for Season 4. C’mon Amazon!
Amazon, you have a winner what are you waiting for? We’ve waited too long. What’s the matter with you?
