Garage Sale Mysteries is returning after a six-year gap with Garage Sale Mysteries: Murder Takes the Stage, bringing Jennifer Shannon and her familiar circle back to Hallmark Channel in September.

I have always thought Garage Sale Mysteries had one of the most inviting premises in the Hallmark mystery world.

Jennifer Shannon is not a detective, lawyer, journalist, or professional crime solver. She is an antiques expert, a busy mother, a wife, and the co-owner of a resale shop called Rags to Riches.

She also happens to have an extraordinary ability to notice when an old object, a garage sale find, or an estate-auction purchase has a story that does not quite add up.

That instinct has taken Jennifer into 16 previous cases involving everything from vintage wedding dresses and antique cameras to medieval armor, player pianos, and recordings that capture a murder.

Now the franchise is finally returning with its first new movie in six years, Garage Sale Mysteries: Murder Takes the Stage.

The original series began in 2013 and became one of Hallmark’s most reliable cozy mystery franchises.

The mysteries are self-contained, but the real appeal is spending time with Jennifer and her family, her business partner Dani, and Detective Lynwood, who has learned that Jennifer’s hunches are usually worth taking seriously.

Garage Sale Mysteries: Murder Takes the Stage premieres on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 8 p.m. ET on Hallmark Channel. It is also expected to arrive on Hallmark+ the following day.

The new movie centers on Jennifer’s true-crime book club, and during the group’s reenactment of the Lizzie Borden case, one of the members is murdered.

It is a suitably theatrical setup for a franchise that has always liked a distinctive object or hobby to launch Jennifer’s investigation.

The Shannon Family Connection

Jennifer is the center of every film. She knows antiques, understands the habits of collectors, and pays attention to details most people overlook. A buyer may see an old camera or a dusty puzzle box, while Jennifer sees provenance, history, and a possible clue!

Her shop, Rags to Riches, is where much of the series’ cozy atmosphere begins. Dani is Jennifer’s loyal business partner and friend, often helping with research and gently questioning Jennifer’s riskier ideas.

Jason is the grounded member of the household, balancing concern for his wife with an understanding that she will follow a mystery once she believes somebody has been wronged.

The Shannon children are also part of the ongoing story, and Hannah and Logan grow up over the course of the movies, which gives the series a little more continuity than viewers may expect from standalone television mysteries.

At the moment, Hallmark has officially confirmed Murder Takes the Stage but has not announced additional Garage Sale Mysteries films beyond it. That means fans should probably treat this as a welcome return rather than assume a full slate is already guaranteed.

Still, the series has a strong foundation. Sixteen earlier movies is a substantial run for any television mystery franchise, and the decision to bring back Jennifer, Dani, Jason, the Shannon children, and Detective Lynwood suggests Hallmark understands that the familiar cast is part of the appeal.

The franchise’s enduring popularity also comes from its dependable formula with an intriguing old object, a close-knit community, a puzzle that can be solved in a feature-length runtime, and a heroine who never stops asking the extra question.
