Beyond Paradise Returns For Season 3 in 2025 – 6 New Mysteries For Humphrey To Solve!

Little did Robert Thorogood imagine that when he came up with the concept of a fish-out-of-water British detective in the Caribbean, fourteen years later, Death in Paradise would not only still be going strong but also have TWO spin-offs!
That is no mean feat for an industry known to give little or no time for a series to really find its groove. But here we are with Beyond Paradise, the first spin-off, now about to air its third season.
If you haven’t seen it, then you are in for a treat, so I’ll give you a quick round-up…
Humphrey Moves To Shipton Abbott
DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) headed to Saint Marie in season three of Death in Paradise, there to replace DI Richard Poole (Ben Miller).
For four seasons, he solved puzzling murders and was a well-liked character but one who also missed home. Having fallen in love with Martha, he decides to return to London to be replaced by DI Jack Mooney (Ardal O’Hanlon).
That was all the way back in 2017, and we genuinely thought Humphrey had sailed off into the sunset, never to be heard from again. Not so, and by 2023, Beyond Paradise was airing on BBC.
Humphrey has relocated to the fictional town of Shipton Abbott in Devon, England and the show follows his life there as he takes up a new job with the local police force.
Unlike the tropical setting of the original series, this show is set in a picturesque English town, offering a different backdrop for the detective’s crime-solving adventures.
With its own set of quirky characters, the series focuses on both Humphrey’s personal life and his work as a detective, balancing his relationship with his fiancée, Martha, and the challenges of his new job.
While the crimes in Shipton Abbott are often less dramatic than those in Saint Marie, they still require Humphrey’s keen observational skills and unconventional methods to solve.
Beyond Paradise retains the light-hearted tone of the original show, blending humor with the mysteries at the heart of each episode.
Even though the episodes whizz by much too quickly, it is great news to hear that season three now has a release date in 2025!
Season 3 Air Date
I’m not one to keep you all in suspense, so get the diaries out because Beyond Paradise will be returning to BBC One on Friday, 28 March 2025. Hurrah!
With six episodes, it will continue to drop new mysteries each week until May 2nd, 2025, and with any good luck, we will also get a Christmas Special later in the year.
New Puzzles To Solve
I don’t mind when a really good show has fewer episodes than usual. I particularly like Vienna Blood on BBC, and even though there are only three stories in each season, they are at least an hour and a half long. I can also imagine that any period piece requires a lot more time.
The same cannot be said for Beyond Paradise, which only offers up a paltry six episodes each year. Even Death in Paradise has eight per season!
But rather than sit here having a little moan, let’s look ahead to the kind of crimes in store for Humphrey, Ester, Kelby, and Margo as we await the new season.
So far, we know that DI Goodman will have his hands full with a body found in the river on the county border, a baffling chocolate box poisoning, a historic farming feud, and a spiking incident on the water.
And if all of that wasn’t enough to take up his time, he will also have plenty of obstacles to overcome on the home front as both he and Martha settle into becoming foster parents.
Jamie Bamber will also reprise his role as the charming Archie Hughes, Martha’s old flame, whose return presents an unexpected challenge.
DS Esther Williams navigates a surprise encounter in her life, PC Kelby Hartford embarks on a journey of personal growth, and Anne has a health scare.
One thing is for sure, though: Beyond Paradise is a really feel-good show, so we’re hoping that all’s well that ends well.
Paradise Follows Paradise
When it comes to airing new episodes, Beyond Paradise always follows Death in Paradise.
Historically, this was towards the end of February, so as soon as we said goodbye to Saint Marie, the following week we said hello to Shipton Abbot, essentially giving us nearly four months of cozy crime TV.
That schedule changed slightly in 2024 when season 13 of Death in Paradise was delayed (or moved) by a month, shuffling the spin-off into April.
Either way, we always get both shows, and the exact same thing happened in 2025. Death in Paradise returned on January 31st with eight episodes, ending on March 21st.
Beyond Paradise then picks up the mantle on March 28th, and all is right with the world.

Filming Locations
The fictional town of Shipton Abbott is set in the scenic environs of South Devon. However, the picturesque Cornish town of Looe, known for its vibrant community and fishing industry, serves as the primary filming location.
Additional scenes were captured in Polperro and Fowey, offering viewers a glimpse of the West Country’s stunning landscapes, which have been seldom explored in TV dramas.
With its engaging plot, beloved characters, and beautiful setting, the series promises to be a delightful journey for fans of British crime dramas.
Season 3of return to paradise has yet to drop in the us on Britbox. Is there a date yet for this to happen?
There seems to be a delay with it, though in Australia, it was added in June. There’s still no definite date for the US but hopefully it will be added very soon. If I find out when I’ll add another message to you here.
