Agatha Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence: Release Date, Cast, and Where to Watch
Agatha Christie fans have another new screen adaptation to look forward to this month, but this one is doing something rather different with two characters who have been around for more than a century.
Agatha Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence arrives on BritBox in the US and Canada on Tuesday, September 15th, 2026, introducing Antonia Thomas and Josh Dylan as Christie’s crime-solving couple.
Unlike most recent Christie adaptations, however, this series is not keeping its characters in the period in which their stories were written. Tommy and Tuppence have been moved into present-day London, complete with modern careers, relationships and ways of investigating a crime.
Tommy Beresford and Tuppence Cowley first appeared in Christie’s 1922 novel The Secret Adversary, and their lives continued across several books over more than 50 years. This new six-part series keeps the pair, their chemistry and their habit of getting mixed up in mysteries, while placing them in a setting that Christie herself could never have known.
When Is Agatha Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence Released?

Tommy & Tuppence premieres on BritBox on Tuesday, September 15th, 2026, and there are six episodes, each running for around 45 minutes.
BritBox will release the first two episodes on September 15th, followed by one new episode each week.
The date is also a nice touch for Christie fans. September 15th was Agatha Christie’s birthday, and BritBox is using the month to celebrate her work with its Eras of Agatha Christie collection, which also includes older adaptations alongside more recent shows such as Murder Is Easy, Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? and Towards Zero.
What Is the New Tommy & Tuppence Series About?
The story begins when Tommy and Tuppence, who were once together at university, find themselves back in each other’s lives.
They reunite at a lavish wedding, but things quickly go wrong when one of the guests is murdered, and an old friend becomes the main suspect. Rather than leaving the investigation to the police, Tommy and Tuppence begin looking into what really happened.
It is a very Christie-style starting point. There is a gathering of people, a sudden death, and a group of possible suspects, but everything around that basic mystery has been brought into the modern day.
Tuppence is now an actress, while Tommy is a crime writer who has lost some of his enthusiasm for his work. Tuppence returning to his life appears to shake him out of that rut, while their relationship becomes just as important to the series as the crimes they are trying to solve.
Who Plays Tommy and Tuppence?
Antonia Thomas plays Tuppence, with Josh Dylan as Tommy. Thomas will be familiar to many viewers from The Good Doctor, in which she played Dr. Claire Browne, as well as shows including Still Up and Misfits.
Dylan has appeared in The Buccaneers and played the younger Bill Anderson in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
The third major name is Imelda Staunton as Aunt Ada. In this version of the story, Ada is a retired private detective who acts as something of a mentor to Tommy. Staunton brings a long list of credits with her, including The Crown, the Harry Potter films and the Paddington movies.
There is plenty of support around the central three as well. Nicholas Richardson plays Julius, Charlie Condou plays Albert, Callie Cooke appears as Detective Sergeant Draper and Chizzy Akudolu plays Detective Inspector Merriot.
A Very Different Agatha Christie Adaptation

The biggest talking point is almost certainly going to be the modern setting, and whether it will work or not remains to be seen, but I’m keeping an open mind!
Christie adaptations often gain much of their look and feel from country houses, vintage cars, old-fashioned clothes, and the social rules of another time. This Tommy & Tuppence deliberately moves away from that.
In fact, BritBox describes it as the first contemporary English-language television series adaptation of Agatha Christie’s stories, which basically means modern London rather than the England of the 1920s, 1930s or 1940s.
It also raises some interesting questions. Christie wrote mysteries in a world without mobile phones, internet searches, security cameras, and instant access to information.
Putting her characters into 2026 means the writers have to find ways of keeping the mystery satisfying while allowing Tommy and Tuppence to use the tools that people would actually have today.
Which Agatha Christie Books Feature Tommy and Tuppence?
One reason Tommy and Tuppence work particularly well for television is that Christie returned to them throughout her career.
They first appear in The Secret Adversary, published in 1922, when the story introduces the young pair as they become involved in a case involving espionage, missing documents and a mysterious figure known as Mr. Brown.
Christie then brought them back in Partners in Crime in 1929, a collection of short stories in which the couple run a detective agency.
Their next novel was N or M? in 1941, followed by By the Pricking of My Thumbs in 1968.
Their final book together was Postern of Fate, published in 1973. This makes Tommy and Tuppence unusual among Christie’s main characters because readers get to see them at several stages of their lives rather than meeting a detective who remains roughly the same age from one mystery to another.
That also gives the new television series quite a lot of material to work with if it proves popular enough to continue beyond these first six episodes.
They Have Been on TV Before

This is far from the first time the pair have appeared on screen, and one of the best-known earlier versions was ITV’s Agatha Christie’s Partners in Crime from the 1980s, starring James Warwick as Tommy and Francesca Annis as Tuppence.
More recently, the BBC produced another Partners in Crime series starring David Walliams as Tommy and Jessica Raine as Tuppence. That six-part version used The Secret Adversary and N or M? as the basis for its two three-episode stories.
The important difference this time is the setting. Earlier versions kept the characters tied much more closely to the period of Christie’s original stories, but this series is deliberately asking what Tommy and Tuppence might look like if they existed now.
Where Can You Watch Agatha Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence?
For viewers in the United States and Canada, the series will be available exclusively through BritBox when two episodes will be available on premiere day, with the remaining four arriving weekly.
For UK viewers, the show will air on the BBC, but as of today, there has been no announcement as to when that might be. I’ll keep you posted!
You also don’t need to have read any of the original Christie books first, because this is a new version of the characters rather than a straight recreation of one particular novel, so the series is clearly being made for newcomers as well as long-time Christie readers.
Of course, anyone who enjoys the television show has five Tommy and Tuppence books waiting for them afterward.
Moving Christie into the present day will probably be the part that gets fans talking most. Some readers love the period setting that comes with her stories, while others may enjoy seeing how her characters work without it.
Either way, we will not have long to find out.
