When you hear the name Dan Brown, you probably picture cryptic symbols, secret societies, and the sort of page-turning suspense that makes you forget you left tea brewing three chapters ago.

But there’s much more to the man behind The Da Vinci Code than just puzzles and plot twists.

With his brand-new novel, The Secret of Secrets, set to hit shelves in September 2025 (probably on the 9th), it’s the perfect time to cozy up and get reacquainted with Brown’s story, his astonishing best-sellers, and what makes his latest adventure a must-read for cozy mystery fans everywhere.

The Blockbuster Books: Best-Sellers by the Numbers

Brown’s early novels, Digital Fortress (1998) and Deception Point (2001), gained modest attention, but it was Angels & Demons (2000) that introduced readers to Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon.

Still, the real game-changer was The Da Vinci Code in 2003. This book didn’t just sell well, it became a global phenomenon.

How big? Try over 81 million copies sold worldwide as of 2009, making it one of the best-selling novels of all time.

The success of The Da Vinci Code sent Brown’s earlier works rocketing up the charts. At one point, all four of his novels appeared on The New York Times best-seller list in the same week.

Brown’s books have been translated into 57 languages and, as of 2025, are estimated to have sold over 250 million copies.

Brown didn’t stop there. He followed up with The Lost Symbol (2009), which sold over a million copies on its first day, and Inferno (2013), both featuring Langdon in new, high-stakes adventures.

Origin (2017) continued the trend, and now, after an eight-year break, Dan Brown is back with The Secret of Secrets.

Where Has Dan Brown Been?

If you’ve been wondering what he has been up to since Origin in 2017, you’re not alone.

While he hasn’t released a new Langdon novel in eight years, Brown certainly hasn’t been idle.

He took a creative detour with Wild Symphony, a children’s book accompanied by a classical music album, and yes, he composed the music himself, drawing on his early love of classical tunes and his mom’s influence as a professional organist.

Brown also weathered a very public divorce, which, in true Brown fashion, involved a bit of legal intrigue over creative projects.

He spent time traveling (sometimes mysteriously, for research), writing scripts, and even recovering from a bout of COVID-19 early in the pandemic.

Through it all, he’s been quietly working on his next big story, researching in cities he won’t name (classic Brown) and keeping fans guessing.

The Secret of Secrets: What We Know

Now, let’s get to the good stuff. The Secret of Secrets is set for release on September 9, 2025, and brings back everyone’s favorite symbologist, Robert Langdon.

This time, Langdon’s journey begins in Prague, a city with a rich history of mysticism and the occult, perfect for a Brown thriller.

He’s there to attend a lecture by the noetic scientist and love interest, Katherine Solomon.

But when the lecture turns into a murder scene and Katherine vanishes, Langdon is plunged into a race across Prague, London, and New York, dodging assassins and unraveling a secret project that could change how we think about the human mind.

Brown has called The Secret of Secrets his “most intricately plotted and ambitious novel” yet, and promises that writing it has been “an unforgettable journey of discovery.”

The book is set to blend his signature mix of codes, art, history, religion, and cutting-edge science, all wrapped up in a propulsive plot.

Why Cozy Mystery Fans Will Love This Book

You might be thinking, “But Dan Brown writes thrillers, not cozy mysteries!” True, but hear me out.

Cozy mysteries are all about clever puzzles, quirky settings, and characters you can root for.

Brown’s new book ticks all those boxes, just with a little more international intrigue.

Prague, with its labyrinthine streets and hidden corners, is as atmospheric as any English village, and Langdon’s knack for solving riddles is pure cozy mystery gold.

Plus, Brown’s books are famously packed with historical tidbits, art references, and secret codes, perfect for readers who like to feel clever while they read.

And with a plot that promises both a missing scientist and a dash of romance, The Secret of Secrets is set to deliver the kind of satisfying, brain-teasing read cozy fans adore.

Fun Facts About Dan Brown (Because Who Doesn’t Love Trivia?)

He’s a musician at heart. Brown started out as a songwriter and even released a children’s album before turning to novels.

His recent Wild Symphony project brought him full circle, combining his love of music and storytelling.

He co-wrote a dating guide. Long before Robert Langdon, Brown was co-authoring 187 Men to Avoid, a tongue-in-cheek survival guide for women.

He loves puzzles, literally. Brown is known for hiding codes and puzzles in his book jackets and even on his website.

Fans have spent years trying to crack them (and some are still unsolved).

He’s not afraid of controversy. The Da Vinci Code sparked debates, lawsuits, and even a few angry theologians, but Brown has always said his books are meant to spark conversation, not conversion.

He’s a bit of a homebody. Despite his globe-trotting characters, Brown lives quietly in New England, where he writes and, presumably, solves the occasional crossword.

Why Dan Brown’s Return Matters

After nearly a decade away from the world of Robert Langdon, Dan Brown’s return with The Secret of Secrets is big news, not just for thriller fans, but for anyone who loves a good puzzle, a dash of history, and a story that keeps you guessing until the very last page.

Whether you’re a die-hard Brown fan or just looking for your next great read, this new adventure promises all the twists, turns, and clever clues you could want.

So, mark your calendars for September 9, 2025. And if you find yourself wandering the streets of Prague in your imagination, chasing secrets with Langdon, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

After all, with Dan Brown, you never know where the next clue will lead!

Oh nice! His Da Vince Code was the first book I read in English ( my English teacher at the time let me borrow his copy). It was so good!
